Lifesaver

"So these are the bad effects that alcohol can bring to our society..!"
The speaker who was the president of the anti alcohol movement in the village concluded his speech.
The public , about a hundred people who gathered in that school auditorium agreed with him primarily because he had convincingly put forward his points against the drinking habit. He portrayed drinking as a social evil that can even kill people prematurely!
"Now, you can tell us about your experiences"He turned towards the audience."It would be great if some of you can share your experiences too."He suggested.
Some of the women came forward and told their sad stories. How they are suffering in this life because of their husband's drinking habits. All of them cried during their speech. The women who occupied the majority of the audience cried along with them!
Kunjappan came to the stage to speak. He was holding a mineral water bottle in his hand." I was going to Trivandrum because my wife was admitted in the Medical College.."He started.
"I was very sad because my wife was going to have an operation that day. I had a couple of 'pegs' before I reach the Kollam KSRTC bus stand. I got into an express which was parked there. I managed to get into a seat which was in the extreme back, on the corner. Then the conductor of the bus announced that the bus may be another 20 minutes late because they had to change the tyre because it was punctured! Then I thought of having one more drink. I left the news paper in the seat and asked the person next to my seat to tell that I will be back soon if someone come for that seat."
The people listened to his speech with curiosity. He drank some water from the bottle, wiped his lips with his hand and continued.."Actually I went for one 'peg' to the nearby Bar, but since I was very sad I must have taken two three..and when I came back to the station, the bus was gone!"
He had another drink from the bottle."
I got another bus after half an hour.
When we reached near Attingal, our bus went very slow and we saw the express on the side of the highway! There was a big crowd assembled there. The bus was hit on it's back by a tanker lorry and the back portion of the bus was completely destroyed. The people sat on the back row, all of them died on the spot!"
The audience sat motionless. Kujappan also became very emotional! He cried!
" If I had not taken that decision to drink that day, I wouldn't have been here to say this story to you, my dear friends..What I am drinking now is not mineral water..it is vodka and sprint..! I will drink if I am sad , I will drink if I am happy..and if I have none of these feelings.. then also I will drink..because this alcohol saved my life..!"
By the time, the president of the anti drinking campaign had asked the mic operator to switch off the microphone, Kunjappan had finished his speech! He drank the last drops from his 'mineral water bottle' and left the stage!
