The loss of the unknown

The street lights suddenly came into life after the power cut. It looked like the life had began allover again! 'He', the unnamed beggar of that small town started counting his day's collection inside his shelter. The street lights decended into his place to give him enough light to do his work!

Many a times he thought of throwing those small coins of 5 paisa away and each time he cursed inside his mind to those heartless people who gave those coins to him!
"Why can't people understand the times have changed?" He would think!"There were times when he could get a tea for 25 paisa and a 'gundu', the rounded ball like snack, which is as big as a cricket ball for another 25 paisa! If you eat that thing, it is going to stay there for a very long time!"His thoughts went very long back.

He finished counting the collection of that day. It was two hundred and thirty eight rupees and 60 paisa to be very precise. That was the average amount he could make on a usual day. It may be a lot more during the festival seasons when the people are very happy and when people think more charitable so that they give more money to beggars.
And he was always a beggar with a difference. He disliked carrying photos of Gods like most of his friends did. He never drank alcohol or he never smoked like the others. But he loved the people who drink because they gave him more money!
According to him , he is not very foolish like the old man who had died the year before. The old man was another beggar in the same town and used to live in the same shelter where he is living now, which is underneath the staircase of the market hall. When he died , police found sacs loaded with currency! Nobody knew how much was the actual amount! Could be many lakhs, people speculated!

He did not want that to happen to him. That is why he gave all his money to Samuel, the man with the white moustache, who ran the tea shop opposite to the market hall.
"Give all your money to me, I will look after it. But remember to keep it as a secret because it is not good for you to have a lot of money and if people finds it out, who will give money to you? You can have free food from my hotel every day!"

He agreed to that suggestion and gave all his money which nobody knew how much, to the tea shop owner. From that day on, he would go three times every day to the back door of the tea shop to collect his food and in the night time he handed over his collection to Samuel very religiously.
After counting his money that day, he came out of his shelter to find a small crowd in front of the Samuel's hotel. He heard somebody crying inside the shop while crossing the road.
"What happened?"He asked the man who stood there.
"Samuel died...he had a heart attack.."

He stood there motionless. He was unable define his emotions..!Darkness filled into his eyes.. like a power cut...!
